Our family has lived in a unique house in southern Ontario for the past 40 years. The design of the house is an interesting Mediterranean or Mexican style. Recently our Mother has left the house to live in a nursing home. We thought of seeking a gift that could remind her of her house. We saw some of Dr. Shalaby's paintings in a restaurant in Burlington, and very much liked both the attention to architectural detail and also his handling of the light of warm Mediterranean climes. We decided to contact him for a commission - a portrait of the family house as a gift for our Mother.

Dr. Shalaby received several digital photographs of the house, and in just a very few weeks had produced a wonderful oil painting. The painting now hangs in a place of honour in our Mother's room at the nursing home. It is a wonderful tribute to a much-loved home, and a source of constant interest and compliments from my Mother's visitors. We appreciated Dr. Shalaby's talents as an artist and also his sensitivity shown in completing this commission on time and on budget.

Dr. Ibrahim Shalaby’s work consistently, and in vibrant colors, strokes from within to capture on canvas his and his people’s resilience of a Palestinian identity continuing to thrive while overcoming past and ongoing disasters. His brush in every hair is a hologram of Palestine. The “Palestinian Woman Baking” in her richly embroidered dress in typical colors of red silk on satin black is an accurate portrayal of an enduring culture thriving in resisting invaders since the time of Canaan.

Salam brother Ibrahim,

I love this painting and so does everyone who has the chance to look at it. The lilac colour is symbol of spirituality and completely in harmony with the theme of the painting. At the same time, the bold touches of colour bring life to it. It makes me travel mentally and spiritually.

My wife and I have, over the years, collected many of Dr. Shalaby's paintings and they adorn every room of our home in Unionville, Ontario. We have also given some of the paintings to family and friends whose comments varied from "these are the works of a master," to "he captures with his lines and colours the essence of the Middle East."

Dr. Shalaby's work has given us - as well as countless other lovers of art - enduring joy and endless moments of visual pleasure and artistic vibrancy.
